Geographical and cultural displacement is one of Juan Duque’s departing points. His constant movement conveys re-positioning into provisional locations. His site-specific practice has taken him to develop projects in several European countries, Asia and America, including United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Mexico, Turquey and South Korea.

Juan Duque lives and works in Brussels. He is a research member of a.pass – Advance Performance and Scenography Studies – in Brussels (2016) and member of BAM – Flemish Institute for visual, audiovisual and media art. He holds various postgraduate degrees, including Arts Media and Design ‘TRANSMEDIA’ Sint-Lukas in Brussels (2008) and Research in Art and Design Sint-Lukas Amberes (2010). He has studied an International Master of Human Settlements from the KU Leuven University (Belgium, 2005) and he is graduated in Architecture from the National University of Colombia in Medellin (1998).

Duque has exhibited in spaces like SAVVY contemporary Berlin (2011, 2012, 2013), CIAP – Hasselt – Belgium (2012), Roger Raveel museum – Machelen-Zulte – Belgium (2011) and PLATFORM  Munich (2011) among others. He has shown his work at international art fairs such as ARTBO Bogotá (2016, 2017), ARCO Madrid 2017 and POPPOSITIONS Brussels 2016. He has participated in several artistic residencies and programs like U-jazdowski Castle, Contemporary Art Centre Warsaw, Poland (2018), SAS Geumcheon (2015) and Gyeonggi Creation Art Center (2014), both in Seoul, South Korea, Hangar Barcelona (2014), URRA Buenos Aires Argentina (2013) and Homesession Barcelona (2010).

Amogst his individual exhibitions, Ejercicios en reposicionamiento at the Museo del Banco de la República, Bogotá Colombia (2015), Con Los Ojos Cerrados at Proyecto ALBO, Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM), Colombia (2012), and Evasión en Homesession Barcelona (2010) stand out. Juan Duque’s work has been part of group shows like Fuera de Sitio at JosédelaFuente, Santander (2015), Brushing the city against the Grain, SASG Seoul, South Korea (2015), Nomadic Settlers – Settled Nomads with SAVVY Contemporary at Kunstraum, Kreuzberg / Bethanien Berlín (2011) and No Soul For Sale at the Tate Modern UK (2010).

Beacause of his merits in artistic research, Juan Duque’s work has been financed consecutively by the State of the Arts Flanders, Belgium.
