Disegnare il mondo / Drawing the World:

Antonio Díaz Grande

In response to the invitation sent by SET UP Bologna, the organiser Mónica Álvarez Careaga has selected four projects produced by Spanish artists: Antonio Díaz Grande, Hondartza Fraga, Daniel R. Martín, and Nacho Zubelzu. They are represented by four galleries of the Santander artistic scene which have in common a presence of drawing as an essential medium for the conception or crystallisation of their artistic work.

Owing to their being based on drawing in this manner, it is possible that the projects presented never abandon their connection with what is real and aspire to draw the world, nature, human beings, and the result of their interaction. Drawing is related to almost all human activities: it serves to understand the world, to document it, and to imagine it in a different way. It is frequently characterised by an economy of means and can often be merely a gesture or a mental act; it is unquestionable that drawing is a medium that has managed to achieve its own independence among the possibilities chosen by contemporary artists to air their peculiar features. Figurative, minimalist, three-dimensional, performative, narrative, sensory… the force of the drawings presented is part of the extraordinary vitality of current graphic expression, a production of new images that originate from the baseline to conquer new forms of communication.
